Australia Reveals Team for World Team Poker Event

Australia are the latest team to confirm their roster for the inaugural World Team Poker event, to be held on May 19th at the Golden Nugget, Las Vegas.

Co-captains Tony G and Jeff Lisandro named a squad that blends youth with experience and one that covers a variety of poker disciplines. Billy “The Croc” Argyros, Gary Benson, Mel Judah and Marsha Waggoner have been playing poker at a high level for over twenty years, whilst David “Superman” Saab, Grant Levy and Stephen Topakas are from the younger, more aggressive generation of poker player.

Team Australia’s captains couldn’t be any more contrasting in style. Lisandro is known to the poker world as “The Iceman”, though that is as much for his choice of chewing gum, which he chews incessantly in order to reduce his facial tells, as his ice-cool manner at the table. Tony G on the other hand, is famous for his incredibly aggressive antics at the poker table, where he is no stranger to getting in his opponents faces (often quite literally) and shouting them down.

Despite the different approaches to the game, the two players do share common ground – they are both extremely talented poker players. With 46 World Series of Poker cashes and over $8 million in tournament earnings between them, this experienced and uncompromising pair will fear no one during the World Team Poker series and will be giving their all to win for their country.

In other World Team Poker news, Team Lebanon has announced that actress, model and part time poker player Shannon Elizabeth will be included in their roster. Elizabeth’s father is Lebanese, so the “American Pie” actress qualifies to play for the Middle Eastern team. With four World Series of Poker cashes to her name, Elizabeth is more than just a pretty face and will add depth to a squad already boasting World Series of Poker HORSE champion Freddy Deeb, as well as Dany Georges and Joe Awada.

Earlier this month, Team England confirmed its roster, with captain Ben Roberts announcing that his World Team Poker squad will consist of Dave “Devilfish” Ulliot, Ram Vaswani, Surinder Sunar, James Akenhead, Dave Colclough, Peter Costa and Joe Beevers.

The opening World Team Poker event will feature forty players from eight different countries, playing a variety of poker games and featuring innovations such as substitution and team tactics. Other confirmed names so far include Toto Leonidas, Johnny Chan, Men “The Master” Nguyen, Phil Hellmuth and Doyle Brunson.

Seven Card Stud Simple Strategy
Before the recent boom in No Limit Texas Hold’em popularity, Seven Card Stud was the poker player’s game of choice. These days, Seven Card Stud’s popularity has waned, but it is still an essential part of most mixed games events, such as the $50,000 Players Championship at the World Series of Poker.

Obtaining the Best Finish in a Tournament
If you are a player who regularly – let's say one in five times – finishes in the lower payout area of the bubble in a poker tournament, it might be time to rethink your strategy later in the game. Obviously you are doing many things right to obtain that position, but in order to make your tournament play more rewarding, there might be a small adjustment you could make.

Poker Strategy: How To Cope When Running Bad
If you've played poker for any length of time, be it on the internet, at your local casino or even at a regular home game, you're bound to have experienced a prolonged run of bad luck. Because you're human, it probably affected your game for the worse too. Here's some advice on how to cope when running bad at poker.

Double Hold'em - Basic Strategy Part 1
If you’re looking to get involved in PartyPoker’s new game “Double Hold’em”, but aren’t sure where to start, then look no further. Here is the first part of our basic strategy guide for this innovative Texas Hold’em poker variant.

Moving from Hold'em to Omaha
If you’re bored of playing Texas Hold’em poker and are looking to try learning a different form of the game, Omaha might be an interesting place to start. Many players that are looking to broaden their poker horizons start out with Omaha as their first alternative to Hold’em, due to the similarity in structure, but don’t be fooled into thinking that the game requires similar tactics.

Poker Table Image
Poker is a multi-faceted game and there are many areas a player will need to work on, in order to become the best player he or she possibly can be. It is often said that position is the key to winning poker games; bankroll management is cited by many as the most vital of skills to learn in order to make it; timing is thought by many to crucial. Of course, all of these things are important.

Playing Poker when Short Stacked
Being short-stacked is a position that no poker player likes to find themselves in. You have to acknowledge that you are getting towards the end of your participation in a game and either hang on in for as long as you can, or take a chance with a shove. Neither option is wrong, but when it comes to choosing which hand you want to be all-in on, you need to be sure you are aware of all the facts.
