BOSS/International Poker Network

The International Poker Network (IPN) is a large European Network (no USA players allowed) which has its base in Sweden and poker servers in Malta. Initially established as the Gold Club Casino in 1996, the company behind the network – BOSS Media – received a number of requests to sell their software package, and in 2004 sold its online casino interests to focus entirely on e-gaming solutions for third party clients. Amongst them is one of the largest European online sports betting operations – SportingBet.com owners of Paradise Poker – and it is from a base of core clients such as this that the network has grown to include some of the more well-known poker sites in France, Spain and Poland, as well as international brand names such as Virgin poker and Yahoo! Poker (UK).

Bonus and Tournaments

Paradise Poker is the biggest individual poker site within the network, however many of the networked sites share the same promotions including a 200% initial sign up deposit bonus, monthly MTT “leaderboard” competition, a $10.000 Jackpot Sit ´n´ Go promotion (with excellent consolation bonuses) and a weekly flagship tournament guaranteeing $100.000 with a buy-in of just $150.00. The network also hosts a wide range of low-to-medium buy-in guaranteed tournaments in a variety of games – not just limited to Texas Hold´em, but also including Omaha, 7 Card Stud, 5 Card Draw – with daily tournaments guaranteeing pots of $10K and $25K.

Traffic

Consequently, the sites affiliated to the network see a regular and loyal membership. Traffic throughout the network peaks during the European evening hours at around 5.000, with an average of 2.000 cash players throughout the day. The standard of these players is very good as a rule, with few tables beyond the micro-limit games seeing a particularly high percentage of “players per flop” despite many tables being short-handed (5 players).

The majority of the tournaments are well subscribed and competitive, and there are only a handful of multi-table freeroll tournaments open to players who have not played in a selected number of raked hands in the previous 72 hours.

The International Poker Network has seen increasing levels of traffic over the past few years as more sites become affiliated to it. There is a history of security and integrity amongst its member sites and they are a good learning starting point for many European based players. The only element missing from the network is any volume of traffic in the high stakes games.

IPN Software

The game play is smooth and not at all heavy on computer RAM; however it is only possible to play five tables at a time if you were wishing to multi-table. The software, developed by BOSS Media, is only available to Windows users, however there is a limited version available in Flash for Mac and Linux users.

Poker Strategy: How To Cope When Running Bad
If you've played poker for any length of time, be it on the internet, at your local casino or even at a regular home game, you're bound to have experienced a prolonged run of bad luck. Because you're human, it probably affected your game for the worse too. Here's some advice on how to cope when running bad at poker.

Playing Poker when Short Stacked
Being short-stacked is a position that no poker player likes to find themselves in. You have to acknowledge that you are getting towards the end of your participation in a game and either hang on in for as long as you can, or take a chance with a shove. Neither option is wrong, but when it comes to choosing which hand you want to be all-in on, you need to be sure you are aware of all the facts.

How To Play The Hand - Fixed Limit and Jh-Th In Big Blind
The game is $2 / $4 Fixed Limit Hold’em at your local casino, where the standard of play is generally loose, with plenty of players taking a flop, though not particularly aggressive. The table is full and you have about $200 in front of you. You are dealt Jh-Th in the big blind.

Obtaining the Best Finish in a Tournament
If you are a player who regularly – let's say one in five times – finishes in the lower payout area of the bubble in a poker tournament, it might be time to rethink your strategy later in the game. Obviously you are doing many things right to obtain that position, but in order to make your tournament play more rewarding, there might be a small adjustment you could make.

Fixed Limit Texas Hold'em Strategy
Fixed Limit Hold’em is far less popular than it used to be, thanks to the boom in the popularity of the No Limit form of the game, but it is still an excellent poker game in its own right. Additionally, novice Hold’em players can use Fixed Limit to learn some basic skills, before progressing to big bet Hold’em games.

How To Play The Hand - NL Tournament, Pocket Ks-Qs
You are playing in an online No Limit Hold’em multi-table tournament and the event is somewhere in the middle stages. There are nine players in total at the poker table and for this hand, you are in middle position. The blinds are currently at 75 / 150. You have a stack of 2,200 chips and the action is folded around to you.

Sklansky's System For Winning NL Hold'em Tournaments
Although we all like to believe that we are the best player at the poker table, it simply cannot be true all of the time. We all find ourselves playing in No Limit Hold’em tournaments where there is a superior opponent crushing the table, or even an inferior opponent who is running good and proving to be a menace. Perhaps you are a complete novice and almost every player in the competition is better than you. How can we best approach these situations and increase our chances of winning the tournament?
