Double or NothingDouble or Nothing SitnGo’s are a special type of SnG where you either double your entry stake or walk away with nothing. Normally consisting of 10 player tables, they are an excellent option for players who consistently get into third or fourth places in regular SnGs, as 5 of the 10 players are winners.

DoNs are an ultra-tight game. Players are very cagey about committing at an early stage, and it is often that you see players slowing down the game, or sitting out, until the higher blind levels are reached. Because of this, skilled players are able to “multitable” on the basis that you should be playing very few hands and have plenty of time to think about them. If you are playing multiple tables to generate rakeback, you will be pleased to know that DoNs are shorter than regular SnGs, so you will accumulate rakeback faster.

The most successful way approach these games, is to play yourself into a good position by stealing a few blinds, winning a few small hands and knowing when to fold – particularly when players close to elimination starting betting wildly to get themselves back in the game. As tempting as it may be to knock out a player at seemingly little risk, losing at this time will weaken your position and strengthen theirs. Let somebody else take that risk! You focus does not need to be on winning, just remaining in the top half, and if you are a fair poker player, you should be able to do that provided you apply a little discipline.

The game dynamics change when there are just 6 or 7 players left. As blinds increase, players tend to risk more pre-flop as it is perceived as a good time to steal blinds – or get caught with nothing in your hand. If you have worked your way into a good position early on in the game, you should not find yourself needing to take chances late on, and assure yourself of one of the top five places.

Double or Nothing games are fairly new, so there are a lot of players trying them out who are not familiar with an ultra-tight table. If you recognise these players, you should be able to take advantage of them, and elevate your way into a safe position at their expense. Good DoN players usually perform consistently well in MTTs and, if you enjoy them, you could try the latest 6 handed variant of the game – Triple or Nothing!
