FTOPS XV halfway update

The Full Tilt Online Poker Series is bigger than ever, with $17 million guaranteed to be won from some 27 different tournaments. Although the fifteenth series is now over halfway through, there is still plenty of action to be had and titles to be won.

The Main Event, hosted by Allen Cunningham, is a $500 + $35 No Limit Hold’em tournament and will be played on Sunday 21st February. There’s $2.5 million guaranteed to be in the prize pool and satellites of various sizes are running daily at Full Tilt. Other tournaments of note are the $300 + $22 No Limit Hold’em 6-max rebuy, with a guaranteed $1 million in the kitty and Peter Feldman as host, as well as the two day event hosted by former World Series of Poker champion Carlos Mortensen, a $2,500 + $120 buy-in, also in No Limit Hold’em, with $2 million guaranteed to won.

The largest amount won so far in FTOPS XV is the $331,315 scooped in Event 12 by “kinpin023”. The $1,000 + $60 NLH tournament drew 1,541 players, for a total prizepool of $1,540,100. The winner beat “grindtherail” into second place, the runner-up earning $209,576 by way of consolation.

The most recognisable name to land an FTOPS XV win so far is that of “jse81”, also known as “lilholdem954” or Chad Batista. He and “Lilly79” chopped when heads up in Event 10 for $210,000 each, leaving $15,000 to play for, with Batista eventually coming out on top in the $300 + $22 NLH tournament. Batista, who served a three and a half year jail term in his early twenties, has now earned over $2 million in tournament prize money, both online and offline.

In the last two events to be played, “Anna Rexic” took down the $500 + $35 HORSE, emerging from a field of 503 to scoop $69,570 and “Tazmaniapwnsyou” netted $121,800 for winning the NLH Turbo event, a $200 + $16 buy-in with 2,880 runners.

“UnoffensiveNick” currently heads the FTOPS XV leaderboard with 410 points, after finishing 12th in the HORSE and 5th in the Heads Up event. He sits 40 points clear of “chickface”, winner of event 13. Whoever has the most points come the end of the series will win themselves a custom avatar for use at Full Tilt, as well as a package valued in the region of $8,500 in tournament buy-ins for the next FTOPS.

Poker Strategy: What Makes A Great Poker Player?
Anybody can learn to play poker – that’s one of the most appealing aspects of the game – but to truly master the game can take a lifetime. There are many different approaches to poker; different styles, tactics and ways to win. However, all of the best poker players share a few common traits.

Poker Table Image
Poker is a multi-faceted game and there are many areas a player will need to work on, in order to become the best player he or she possibly can be. It is often said that position is the key to winning poker games; bankroll management is cited by many as the most vital of skills to learn in order to make it; timing is thought by many to crucial. Of course, all of these things are important.

To Show Or Not To Show
The value of showing your hole cards is a topic that divides the poker community. Many of the best and most experienced poker playing professionals choose never to reveal any information about their play for free, while an equal number are seemingly happy to show every last bluff to their opponents. But who is right?

Chip Etiquette
Any time you play with real poker chips (that is: whenever you aren’t playing poker on the Internet), you should observe proper chip etiquette. Good poker etiquette can make each hand go a little faster – which is almost always good as far as your fellow players are concerned. Another advantage to chip etiquette is that you are more likeable to other players. When you treat your chips like an experienced poker player, the other people at the table are more willing to treat you like an experienced poker player.

The Gap Concept
Introduced by professional poker player and author David Sklansky in his book “Tournament Poker For Advanced Players”, the “Gap Concept” is an important principle to understand in order to improve as a poker player, particularly in tournaments.

Double Hold'em - Basic Strategy Part 1
If you’re looking to get involved in PartyPoker’s new game “Double Hold’em”, but aren’t sure where to start, then look no further. Here is the first part of our basic strategy guide for this innovative Texas Hold’em poker variant.

Poker Patter 1
The language of the poker table can be thoroughly confusing. Full of jumbled jargon and vexing verbs, poker terms can leave a newcomer feeling flummoxed. Ridiculous nicknames for hands and strange, technical terminology can leave a beginner baffled. If you’re dipping your toe into the poker pond for the first time, cast a glance at our series on “Poker Patter”, the first of which covers some of the more basic, but still vitally important, poker terminology.
