There has been no shortage of high stakes poker action on the internet in the last week or so, with Gus Hansen having more swings than the average playground.
The three-time World Poker Tour title winner has long been considered a high stakes fish, at least when it comes to online poker and this time last week he was doing his best to cement that reputation, losing over $550,000 in just six hours, at Full Tilt Poker.
Hansen’s woeful session started with a match against Di “Urindanger” Dang, which lasted 176 hands. Playing at Full Tilt Poker’s $500 / $1,000 Pot Limit Omaha Cap table, Hansen managed to drop in excess of $57,000 to Dang, before the latter called it a night.
He then took on Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies in a three hour session, which did the bulk of the damage to Hansen’s bankroll, as Sahamies won over $375,000 from the Danish WPT Hall of Famer. But the Full Tilt Pro wasn’t done losing yet, as he proceeded to donate more than $150,000 to Ashton “theASHMAN103″ Griffin, in just forty minutes.
Things turned around for Hansen on Tuesday night however, when he comprehensively beat Cole South, also on the Pot Limit Omaha Cap tables. A marathon session of internet poker saw more than 1,200 hands dealt, with Gus Hansen coming out almost $575,000 to the good.
South had been running well too, winning more than $350,000 from “Ziigmund” on Monday, but losses in five of the seven capped pots against Hansen saw the end of his winning streak. Having previously topped the 2010 leader board in terms of profit at high stakes online poker, with more than $3.3 million earned, South now finds his poker profits sitting below the $700,000 mark, with even Hansen now above him.
In other online poker news, Tom “durrrr” Dwan and Phil Ivey both hit the Full Tilt virtual felt this weekend, including a short Six-Max session featuring the two poker pros alongside Patrik Antonius.
Dwan came into the weekend over $100,000 down and his slide continued, with losses of around $180,000 at the $1,000 / $2,000 Limit Hold’em Heads Up tables. He managed to claw some of that back at the $500 / $1,000 Omaha Cap game, but the weekend ended with “durrrr” down around $200,000.
Ivey also booked a weekend loss, around $90,000 down in all, mostly at the $500 / $1,000 Omaha Cap tables. Antonius played fewer than 100 hands all weekend, but his brief appearance landed him $67,187 in profit, mostly thanks to the $140,000 earned in the brief Six-Max session.
