High stakes railbirds the world over breathed a huge sigh of relief as “Isildur1” returned to the virtual felt earlier in the month. With the absence of the mysterious Swede from the high stakes online poker scene, things had become a little quiet, but the player on the losing end of the biggest online pot in history is back with a vengeance.
It would have been fair to assume that “Isildur1” was bust after disappearing from high stakes games at the end of last year, including the “nosebleed” $500 / $1,000 sessions, before returning on February 3rd this year in games as small as $5 / $10. After playing five days and around 16,000 hands at lower stakes, he took a few days off before coming back at $50 / $100 No Limit Hold’em. Another 1,000 or so hands and a jump to $100 / $200 NLH sent the signal that “Isildur1” was well and truly back on the scene.
But he’s not stopped there. Over the last four days, the action has been intense. $200 / $400 Cap Pot-Limit Omaha sessions earned “Isildur1” over $320,000 before a 1,944 hand session of $200 / $400 No Limit Hold’em against young poker pro Justin “ZeeJustin” Bonomo saw profits boosted by as much as $567,515. The session took place over two and a half hours and as many as seven tables, with Bonomo tweeting afterwards that the loss was his biggest ever.
The most significant pot of that session was worth around $170,000, both players getting the money in on the turn after Bonomo had flopped bottom two on a Kc Qd 6d board, only for “Isildur1” to have flopped top set with his pocket kings.
He then took on Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies at $100 / $200 Pot Limit Omaha, before they upped the stakes to $200 / $400. Winning not far short of $170,000, “Isildur1” then took to the shorthanded PLO games alongside Tom Dwan, Gus Hansen and company, as well as taking on Dwan heads up. “Isildur1” came out on top to the tune of around $230,000.
Unbelievably, the desire for action continued well into the next 24 hours, with the first match against Brian Hastings since the controversial meetings at the back end of 2009. A little revenge was taken, with “Isildur1” scoring over half a million profit from the $300 / $600 PLO game. This was followed by another 1,177 hands with “ZeeJustin”, where “Isildur1” gave back around $250,000 of Bonomo’s bankroll playing NLH, with a $300 / $600 PLO match against Brian Townsend coming later. The Swede’s luck was out though, with Townsend scooping a whopping $657,996 profit.
Welcome back “Isildur1”, it’s been quiet without you.
