Isildur1 To Play in PartyPoker Big Game IV

The PartyPoker Big Game IV is scheduled to take place at Les Ambassadeurs in Mayfair, London, from April 11th to April 13th. The 48 hour long high stakes cash game is already an eagerly anticipated event in the poker calendar and this year’s lineup will feature some huge names, including Phil Laak, Luke Schwartz and Tony G.

But the Big Game IV is set to be bigger than ever, thanks to the possible appearance of the internet poker sensation known only as “Isildur1”.

Last week, Tony G offered to stake the Swedish poker phenomenon for the PartyPoker.com Big Game IV, as well as covering the cost of flights and accommodation, via his blog. From what seemed only a semi-serious offer, few people expected anything to actually materialise, but in the last few days, Tony G claims to have received an e-mail from Isildur1 stating that he is “seriously thinking about” revealing his identity and playing in the game.

The claims have been given extra credence by a midweek press release from the Big Game’s producers Matchroom Sport. Managing Director Eddie Hearn announced “It was important to me that Isildur1 made his first major TV appearance on one of our shows. Tony and I have worked hard to ensure this happened and we are delighted to welcome him to the PartyPoker Big Game IV”.

The logistics are still to be decided. If Isildur1 were to appear on the show wearing a mask, sceptics would claim that the player behind the disguise could be anyone. Tony G stated on his blog that if Isildur1 does choose to play in disguise, he will “provide evidence” to prove the identity. Of course, an appearance without a disguise has not yet been ruled out.

Isildur1 has been involved in most of the largest pots in online poker history, including losing a $1,356,947 Omaha pot to Patrik Antonius in November, the single largest pot ever seen. According to PokerTableRatings.com, since bursting onto the scene with $5 million worth of poker profits, Isildur1 has lost a total of $7.5 million – a downswing which led to the staking offer from Tony G.

The mystery poker player is widely believed to be Viktor Blom, despite the man himself stating “I am not the one you are looking for. Keep searching”. Stefan Mattsson and Fredrik Andersson have also been touted as potentially being Isildur1.

Whether or not he will reveal his identity remains to be seen, but for the time being it seems that Isildur1 really will be making an appearance at the PartyPoker.com Big Game IV. “I really cannot wait… this will be the biggest poker event in history” said Tony G on his blog. He’s probably not wrong, either.

Opening Hand Selection - Hold It or Fold It
