James “Flushy” Dempsey, one of the World Series of Poker 2010’s best performing poker players, has been rewarded for his efforts with a Full Tilt Poker sponsorship deal.
The professional player from Brighton, England really came to prominence on the world stage this summer, in winning his first ever World Series of Poker bracelet. The man known as “Flushy” took down event number 9, the $1,500 Pot Limit Hold’em, earning $197,470 in the process. He also managed to cash in three other events at this year’s WSOP, including a second place finish in the Omaha Eight or Better Championship event, with total earnings of more than half a million dollars.
Of the Full Tilt Poker sponsorship deal, Dempsey said, “This is such a dream of mine. I’ve worked very hard over the years and to have won a bracelet and now this… It’s just fantastic”.
Liv Boeree, winner of the San Remo European Poker Tour event earlier this year, has called time on her own sponsorship deal with poker room Ultimate Bet.
Another British player enjoying a successful year, Boeree played the World Series of Poker Main Event without wearing any Ultimate Bet branded gear, but it was believed that talks were being held and she would eventually continue as part of Team UB. It has since emerged that these talks failed, meaning Boeree is now a free agent.
Boeree, who studied astrophysics at Manchester University, was introduced to poker when taking part in “Ultimatepoker.com Showdown”, a television programme in which she received coaching from the likes of 11-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth. She showed real potential for some time, before finally breaking into the poker big time by winning the EPT San Remo event in April, becoming only the third woman to win an EPT title and earning €1,250,000 in the process.
Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi, winner of the $50,000 Players Championship at this year’s WSOP and Main Event final tablist, has signed up with poker instructional website DeepStacks Live. Mizrachi said, “I had a lot of options after the WSOP, but DeepStacks Live was the right fit for how I play and how I want to teach others to play”.
Mizrachi joins a team that already includes Tom McEvoy, TJ Cloutier and Mike Matusow, and he will take most of his classes in Florida.
