Followers of the unknown Scandinavian poker player “Isildur1” and the high stakes online poker games have been treated to a real rollercoaster ride this past week, with bankrolls fluctuating wildly and monster pots moving in all directions.
After picking up over $2 million in poker profits in the early part of the past week, Isildur1 had somewhat unbelievably lost the lot, plus a little extra, by Wednesday. Playing a total of 9,261 hands over the course of the day, he had actually started his session off incredibly well.
He began by taking on Cole South heads up at $500 / $1,000 Pot-Limit Omaha, where he netted over $550,000 after contesting 952 hands. That initial win was massively improved by a session of No Limit Hold’em against Justin “ZeeJustin” Bonomo, at stakes of $200 / $400, where the mystery Swede plundered another $521,566 from the young American’s bankroll.
Up well over a million on the day so far, in addition to around $1.5 million on Tuesday and over $500,000 on Monday, Isildur1 must have been feeling on top of the online poker world, but that was all about to change.
888 hands of $300 / $600 Pot Limit Omaha later, against Tom “durrrr” Dwan, and Isildur1’s profit was almost completely wiped out, with Dwan registering an incredible $1,021,995 win. This result takes him to the top of the table in terms of poker profit so far in 2010, with more than $3.3 million earned at Full Tilt Poker this year.
Dwan benefited handsomely from two hands in particular that featured massive pots; the first of which saw Isildur1 holding a weaker two pair than Dwan, for a shade over $300,000; the second when Dwan made a straight on the turn, with the same card providing the Swede with a set.
That wasn’t it though, as Isildur1 took on Phil “OMGClayAiken” Galfond at $200 / $400 No Limit Hold’em, before moving to $300 / $600 Pot Limit Omaha and later on, to $500 / $1,000 PLO. After the initial Hold’em session, the pair were basically even, but Galfond took the lead to the tune of nearly $300,000 after switching to PLO. The stakes were soon raised and after 2,000 or so hands at the higher limits, that lead was increased to an incredible $1.9 million.
The “nosebleed” poker session featured eight pots in excess of $300,000, the largest of which moved in the direction of Isildur1, tipping the scales at an impressive $415,999. That pot was the exception rather than the rule for the Swede though, as he ended the day an incredible $1.8 million worse off.
Whatever next for Isildur1? One thing is for certain – there’s never a dull moment when he’s at the online poker tables.
