The 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event has played down to a final table of nine, who will return to Las Vegas on November 6th 2010 to battle it out for the WSOP bracelet. But just who are the “November Nine”? Learn about them in this series of articles, the first part of which covers Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi, Jonathan Duhamel and Filippo Candio.
The most well known player at the WSOP Main Event final table will be Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi. The 27 year old ex-medical student from Florida won his first bracelet earlier this year, in the $50,000 buy-in Players Championship and he already has a total of 19 WSOP cashes to his name.
Should he win this year’s Main Event, he would become the highest earning tournament player, overtaking the likes of Phil Ivey in the process.
He comes to the table seventh in chips, but he cannot be discounted. His nickname “The Grinder” sums up his battling nature and consistent results perfectly and he is by far the most experienced of this year’s “November Nine”.
Mizrachi will also tie for the WSOP 2010 Play of the Year award, should he triumph in November.
Jonathan Duhamel will come to the table with a commanding chip lead, almost 20 million clear of nearest rival John Dolan. The French-Canadian poker professional is just 22 years old, but his youthful exuberance could work in his favour. He says, “I’m going to raise a lot of hands and you’re going to see a lot of action from me – that’s for sure”.
Duhamel left his college course to play poker professionally and has had some successes, cashing twice at the 2010 World Series of Poker and final tabling the Prague European Poker Tour leg in 2008. No matter what the result, his earnings from this event far surpass anything achieved so far in his poker career and he is well placed to make a big push for the $8.9 million first prize.
Filippo Candio is the sole European poker professional at the WSOP Main Event 2010 final table. Should things go his way in November, he will become the first Italian to win the World Series Main Event and is already the only one to have made the final table.
Something of a dark horse, Candio is primarily a cash game player and has very little poker playing experience in North America. He has talked about getting a coach to help improve his tournament poker game, as he wants to make the most of this life changing opportunity.
The 26 year old from Sardinia is a student of classical languages and eventually plans to study law, just like his father, who is well known back in his homeland. Should Filippo Candio get a result in November, he will also be well known.
