PartyPoker World Open VI Underway

Yevgeniy Timoshenko has won Heat 4 of the PartyPoker World Open VI, which is currently being played in London’s Palm Beach casino. The former World Poker Tour champion came through a tough table, which featured Frank Kassela, Praz Bansi and recent WPT London winner Jake Cody, to ensure his place in the final, which will take place on September 10th.

Timoshenko found himself heads up with Kassela and it took a real cooler to end the heat. Kassela looked down at A-K and raised, only to be re-raised by the Ukranian. Kassela shoved, Timoshenko snap called and the cards were revealed, with Timoshenko turning up A-A. The J-T-2 flop offered a little hope to Kassela in the form of a gutshot draw, but a 2 on the turn and a 7 on the river sealed Timoshenko’s place in the PartyPoker World Open VI final.

World Open VI has been running all week; in Heat 3, John Duthie bested a table featuring Annette Obrestad, David “Viffer” Peat and Liam Flood. The European Poker Tour and PokerStars pro joins Sam Trickett and Andrew Robl, as well as Timoshenko, at the seven handed final table.

Trickett, who is in top form with six WSOP final tables this summer and a recent fourth place finish at EPT Vilamoura, won the opening heat, fending off competition from James Akenhead and Neil Channing. Andrew Robl’s Heat 2 victory came at the expense of Roland de Wolfe and Tom “durrrr” Dwan.

The PartyPoker World Open VI is a 48 player No limit Hold’em tournament with a $10,000 buy-in, making for a total prizepool of $480,000. This year’s World Open features a deeper starting stack – the stacks have been tripled – which is making for a much tougher tournament. The winner will walk away knowing they have beaten a host of the world’s finest poker playing professionals, as still to feature in the remaining heats are star names like Dave “Devilfish” Ulliot, Mike Sexton and defending champion Phil Laak.

At World Open V, Laak walked away with the $250,000 first prize after beating the likes of Luke “FullFlush” Schwartz and his poker playing girlfriend, Jennifer Tilly. The “Unabomber” described his victory as a “wild rollercoaster ride” and added, “I am looking forward to coming back to defend my title”.

Playing Short Handed Poker
There are two meanings for the term “Short handed” in poker games. The one most frequently applied, is when players are playing on a ring table comprising of only 6 players, however the phrase can also relate to the endgame in a tournament or single table Sit'n'Go, where the number of players has decreased as the competition progresses - ultimately resulting in a “Heads Up” scenario. Short handed poker is an area of the game that every poker player will experience at some stage, and should learn how best to manage to their favor.

Chip Etiquette
Any time you play with real poker chips (that is: whenever you aren’t playing poker on the Internet), you should observe proper chip etiquette. Good poker etiquette can make each hand go a little faster – which is almost always good as far as your fellow players are concerned. Another advantage to chip etiquette is that you are more likeable to other players. When you treat your chips like an experienced poker player, the other people at the table are more willing to treat you like an experienced poker player.
