Last year, PokerStars recognised the need for attractive live poker tournaments for the thousands of poker players in the Baltic countries and surrounding area, such as Russia and Scandinavia, by launching the inaugural PokerStars Baltic Festival.
Aiming to create a Baltic equivalent of the PokerStars Carribean Adventure, the world’s largest online poker site set up camp at the back end of October 2009 in Tallinn, the capital city of Estonia. The new Baltic Festival was well received, with the Main Event alone attracting 307 poker players from 24 different countries, the largest live poker tournament ever held in the region, which prompted Thomas Larsson of PokerStars.com to describe the event as a “massive success”.
Now PokerStars are looking to capitalise on the Baltic Festival’s positive reception, by renewing the event next month. The Swissôtel Tallinn will provide a beautiful and luxurious setting for some high quality poker, as the festival kicks off on June 15th with cash games and a welcome party. The serious business begins the following day, with Day 1A of the PokerStars Baltic Festival Main Event, which now carries a slightly larger €1,400 + €100 buy-in, in a bid to attract more serious poker professionals and star names.
Omaha fans can join in the poker action on Friday 18h June, with a €300 + €30 Pot Limit Omaha tournament for those no longer involved in the Main Event, while a €500 + €50 No Limit Hold’em side tournament kicks off later that evening. The final day’s play on June 19th sees the climax of the festival’s Main Event, as well as a €100 + €10 No Limit Hold’em Turbo tournament.
Daily freeroll tournaments are now running at PokerStars, as well as real money satellites starting from as little as €1 + €0.10, where entrants can win an entry to a weekly final. Each final offers the chance to win a PokerStars Baltic Festival package, which not only includes the €1,500 buy-in, but also offers €350 spending money and five nights accommodation for two people at the festival venue.
The Baltic Festival festival’s sponsors are also holding a “last longer” competition, with a package to the European Poker Tour Tallinn event as a prize. Any player wearing PokerStars branded clothing for the duration of the Main Event, even if they didn’t actually qualify via PokerStars, is eligible to take part and whoever lasts longest wins the EPT package.
