Review of Full Tilts “Rush” Poker

Back in January, Full Tilt Poker released their latest innovation in poker play – “Rush Poker”. This is an exceptionally fast and welcome addition to the variety of poker games generally available and, now it has been around for six weeks, we thought it would be a good time to see if all the hype has been justified.

In case you missed all the press reports and PR associated with the launch, the main selling point of “Rush Poker” is the ability to quickly fold a hand using the “Quick Fold” button and instantly be whisked away to another table where you are immediately dealt another (hopefully better) pair of cards. Even if you stay on your original table and play out the cards you have been given, you will still be on a different table for the next hand – win or lose. The speed of the game is electric and it is actually possible to play up to 360 hands an hour (although that would have meant you would have folded them all), which equates to a new game every ten seconds!

So, having played this for a while, what is the verdict?

First of all the graphics are superb. A huge choice of avatars and backgrounds mean you can be playing as a monkey in the jungle or a spaceman on the moon. The atmosphere is heightened by a countdown before you enter your first game, and even when you have played Rush Poker many times, the speed of the games takes a little while to become accustomed to. Thankfully, there is little time available for players who wish to slow the clock down and, even if you wanted to make notes about your combatants, the game is too fast for analyzing the play of others and – thank goodness! – no time to chat.

Once you have acclimatized to the high speed velocity, it is still possible to play ABC poker amongst the madness, and to take advantage of those who don´t. If you just play your normal game (only quicker) strategies like the rule of position, when to bet and when to slow play all still apply. The advantages for a player who rarely alters their strategy on the table are immense as, if you are playing to a system or pattern; no other player is around long enough to recognize what you are doing!

Overall, “Rush Poker” is a success. The novelty value that drove players to try it out when first launched does not appear to have worn off and now the variety of games on offer has been increased by the introduction of Rush Omaha. Even though “Rush” is an extension of what other sites have been doing for a while (Hyperturbos on Pokerstars spring to mind), this is done better as the full package.  Significantly “Rush” joins the spectrum of games which are available to small stakes players on a variety of the larger poker web sites, and so it is not a game that we would expect to see at a major tournament in the near future. However, it is a game which leaves you exhilarated and if you have not tried it yet, get over to Full Tilt Poker and get your rush!

Gambling A To Z: E
The fifth part of our "Gambling A to Z" series is here and today we'll be looking at "Edge", "Expectation" and "Exacta".

Seven Card Stud Simple Strategy
Before the recent boom in No Limit Texas Hold’em popularity, Seven Card Stud was the poker player’s game of choice. These days, Seven Card Stud’s popularity has waned, but it is still an essential part of most mixed games events, such as the $50,000 Players Championship at the World Series of Poker.

Basic Omaha Eight Or Better Strategy
If you are looking to beat Omaha Eight or Better (also known as Omaha High-Low Split) at low stakes, there are several important points to consider.

High Stakes Poker - Hansen and Negreanu
When it comes to poker tournaments, Gus Hansen is one of the world’s most feared players, particularly at No Limit Hold’em. In recent years though, he has really struggled with online high stakes cash games. He ended 2009 almost $6 million down and is regarded by many in the poker community as something of a high stakes fish.

Moving from Hold'em to Omaha
If you’re bored of playing Texas Hold’em poker and are looking to try learning a different form of the game, Omaha might be an interesting place to start. Many players that are looking to broaden their poker horizons start out with Omaha as their first alternative to Hold’em, due to the similarity in structure, but don’t be fooled into thinking that the game requires similar tactics.

Poker Patter 2
The second part of “Poker Patter”, a look at the colourful vocabulary of the poker table, covers some of the obscure and humorous nicknames assigned to Texas Hold’em hands. If you ever found yourself wondering why your opponent was talking about his “Flat Tyre” in the middle of a hand, you might not have realised he wasn’t referring to his car. Perhaps you were confused as to why the rest of the table suddenly started talking about tennis, after a player showed her AK? Read on, as the murky vocabulary of the poker table becomes that little bit clearer.

Poker Etiquette
Etiquette is as much a part of poker as cards and chips. Bad manners are surprisingly common at the average card club or casino and failing to adhere to the rules of basic poker etiquette will earn you far more enemies than friends.
