Tom “Durrrr” Dwan Signs With Poker Royalty

Poker Royalty, a poker representation agency, today announced that poker professional Tom “Durrrr” Dwan has selected Poker Royalty for worldwide management and marketing representation across all major platforms, including media, sponsorship, licensing, commercial endorsements and appearances.

Only 23 years old, Dwan is one of the most successful players in the history of online poker. He is one of the first online poker professionals to also achieve success in the high-stakes “big game” at Bellagio in Las Vegas, competing against high-stakes professionals Phil Ivey, Barry Greenstein, Sammy Farha, David Benyamine, Jennifer Harman and the legendary Doyle Brunson.

In making the announcement, Brian Balsbaugh, Founder & CEO, Poker Royalty, said, “I’m thrilled to represent Tom, who I consider one of the most intelligent and interesting people I’ve ever met. He would be successful at whatever he decided to do, I think the poker industry is lucky to have him. Expect to see Tom more active in the business side of poker in the coming months and years.”

In addition to his cash game prowess, Dwan has over $1.1 million in career tournament winnings, with final table appearances in the Aussie Millions, the World Poker Tour (WPT), and the World Series of Poker (WSOP). He is a regular on several made-for-tv poker programs such as Poker after Dark and High Stakes Poker.

Upon signing with Poker Royalty, Dwan said, “Brian and I have been working together unofficially for a while now and he guided me through the negotiations with Full Tilt on my sponsorship deal. He added a ton of value there, so I’m excited to make it official with Poker Royalty by signing a management contract. I’m interested in several poker-related business opportunities and Brian and his team are perfectly situated to help me analyze those opportunities.”

How To Play The Hand - NL Hold'em and Low Pocket Pair
You’re playing a $0.5 / $1 No Limit Hold’em ring game at your regular pokerroom and there are seven opponents. The standard of play is nothing out of the ordinary; not too aggressive, not too tight and there is one other player at the table who you feel is as good as yourself, seated in the small blind. You are dealt two 8c – 8s on the button.

Playing Short Handed Poker
There are two meanings for the term “Short handed” in poker games. The one most frequently applied, is when players are playing on a ring table comprising of only 6 players, however the phrase can also relate to the endgame in a tournament or single table Sit'n'Go, where the number of players has decreased as the competition progresses - ultimately resulting in a “Heads Up” scenario. Short handed poker is an area of the game that every poker player will experience at some stage, and should learn how best to manage to their favor.

Know Your Outs and Pot Odds
Most poker players, even complete novices, will be aware of the concept of pot odds. To become a long term winner at poker, it is essential to put your chips into the pot only when receiving the correct price (or better). As luck evens itself out over time, if you only ever contest pots that offer better than your true odds of winning, you will make a long term profit at poker.

Chip Etiquette
Any time you play with real poker chips (that is: whenever you aren’t playing poker on the Internet), you should observe proper chip etiquette. Good poker etiquette can make each hand go a little faster – which is almost always good as far as your fellow players are concerned. Another advantage to chip etiquette is that you are more likeable to other players. When you treat your chips like an experienced poker player, the other people at the table are more willing to treat you like an experienced poker player.

Why Poker Sites Monitor Your Computer Activity
If you take the time to read the user agreement for most online poker sites, you will see that a small portion of the agreement deals with the poker room’s ability to monitor your computer’s activity during game play.

Secrets of Short-Handed No Limit Hold'em: Winning Strategies for Short-Handed and Heads Up Play
Short–handed and heads-up poker is an area where every complete poker player needs to be proficient. Unless you only ever play full-table ring games, at some stage (hopefully often) you will be in a situation where you are reaching the end of a SnG or tournament, and the dynamics of your game, and the play of your opponents, will change.
